- JSC "United Shipbuilding Corporation": Looking into the Future
JSC "United Shipbuilding Corporation", the 100 percent Government capital based company, has been established by the Order of the President of the Russian Federation in June, 2007 as part of the reforms introduced to the Russian shipbuilding industry. The management company was registered in St. Petersburg. It took almost two years to establish the structure and the authorized capital of the corporation and this process was completed in due terms - by April 1, 2009.
We herein interview the President of JSC "United Shipbuilding Corporation", Mr. Vladimir Pakhomov.

- Conversion of the multipurpose cargo ship “Engineer Plavinsky”
The ship owned by North Shipping Company was modernized due to the project of Maritime Engineering Bureau. The unique modernization of the motor ship was carried out at one of shipyards of China. The hull of the ship was lengthened by 25 meters and now there is an additional hold available at the ship. In addition the height of coamings was increased and third ship crane was mounted. So now freight-carrying capacity of “Engineer Plavinsky” increased by 2 thousands tones.

The authors of this article are not trying to determine the causes of the global crisis, their only aim is to show its influence on global shipbuilding. The global financial and economic crisis has led to bankruptcy of a number of financial institutions, difficulties in banking sector, stoppage of investments into new construction and current credit financing, sharp decrease in prices for energy sources and decrease in production and demand for goods and services.

- Russia’s first double-purpose
fuelling station
On June 23, 2009 Vagit Alekperov, President of OAO
LUKOIL, and Valentina Matvienko, Governor of Saint-
Petersburg, took part in the official ceremony to commission
Russia’s first “water-shore” double-purpose
fuelling station.
The fuelling station is located on Vyborg Embankment
and can fuel both motor vehicles and small vessels
during the navigation season on the Neva River. The
design capacity of the fuelling station is about 500 fill-ups
per day, including 60 fill-ups of small vessels.

VOSTA LMG is proud to announce the addition of a Multi Functional Dredge (MFD) to its product range. This Multi Functional Dredge complements the product portfolio for small dredges. The MFD250 combines different technologies in one unit. The standard product is supplied with three different tools which can be connected to the boom. The MFD250 has an option for vegetation control in the form of a rake, a 400 l bucket for excavation and also has the option of using a small cutter with two underwater pumps for dredging sand and mud. This product is designed for a quick mobilization and is very user friendly.

- Shell awards floating LNG contracts to Technip and Samsung
July 28, 2009 Shell Gas & Power Developments BV (Shell) today signed a master agreement with a consortium comprising Technip and Samsung for the design, construction and installation of multiple floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facilities over a period of up to fifteen years. Shell and Technip-Samsung also signed a contract for execution of the front end engineering and design (FEED) for Shell's 3.5 million tonne per annum (mtpa) FLNG solution.

Dubai, 31st May 2009: Topaz Energy and Marine Ltd., through its subsidiary BUE Kazakhstan recently secured a USD 100 million contract with Agip KCO in Kazakhstan. Under the contract, Topaz will custom-build, own and operate six specialized barges over a ten-year period to support Agip’s development program in the Kashagan field in the Northern Caspian. The award means Topaz will further solidify its already leading market position in the Caspian. Topaz has successfully worked in Kazakhstan for more than ten years.

July 16, 2009 - Joint Venture Company with the participation of PRISCO and Norwegian Company GC Rieber Shipping has got two new vessels for work on Sakhalin shelf. High-speed passenger vessels "Polar Baikal" and "Polar Piltun" went down to work under Russian flag. Port of their documentation is Kholmsk. Russian crews are serving the vessels.

St. Petersburg has hosted the IV International Maritime Defense Show – one of the world’s leading exhibitions in the field of naval architecture, maritime armament and shipbuilding. 350 enterprises participated in the event, 67 of them – foreign companies from 28 different countries. Professional shipbuilders and guests of the Show took great interest in the advanced ship and motorboats that belong to the fleet of the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Federal Security Service and guest combatant ships from Great Britain, France and the Netherlands.
