  • BLRT Grupp delivered world’s largest gas-powered ferry
    Dec. 14, 2011 in Ålesund, Norway, a naming ceremony for MF Boknafjord, the world’s largest gas ferry, took place. The largest gas-powered ferry in the world Boknafjord was built by shipbuilding company Fiskerstarnd BLRT for the transport company Fjord1 in accordance with the results of the international tender. The ship was designed by the company Multi Maritime.
  • Bilge water challenges: rethinking the solution
    International regulations demand the reduction of oil content in bilge water to 15 ppm before it can be discharged into the ocean. Yet while bilge water treatment systems are carefully regulated by International Maritime Organization (IMO) resolution MEPC.60(33) or MEPC 107(49), many ship owners and ship operators possess type-approved systems that fail to do their job at sea.

    Feb. 21, 2012 – Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RS) is now officially recognised by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union as a classification society fully meeting the criteria for the relevant work under Directive 2006/87/EC. The Directive establishes the technical requirements to inland waterway vessels for operation on all European inland waterways, including the Rhine.

  • Philadelphia regional port authority signs Memorandum of understanding with port of Klaipeda
    The Republic of Lithuania Port of Klaipeda and the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority January 20, 2012 signed an historic Memorandum of Understanding that promises to open Philadelphia ports to the European and Asian shipping trade via the ice-free port of Klaipeda, the Lithuanian port city on the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea.

  • Kongsberg to head up a major consortium to develop Integrated Environmental Monitoring System
    In order to reduce the environmental risks from oil and gas operations, a consortium consisting of Kongsberg, IBM, and DNV will now develop a real-time environmental monitoring solution together with their client Statoil. The 150 MNOK project is led by Kongsberg and will use integrated technology to create a step change for the operators’ access and operational usage of environmental data.
